A fundraising evening for the fresco painting of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ was held on February 4th at the Valjevo Cultural Center, where actor Nenad Jezdić performed his popular monodrama „The Book About Milutin.“
This year marks 30 years since the construction began at the confluence of the Gradac and Kolubara rivers of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ, a place where, in God’s love, like clear rivers, the souls of Valjevo residents and all visitors to our region unite. The region, which the Venerable Father Justin of Ćelije prophetically noted would be a center of Serbian spirituality.
Through the diligent efforts of the city of Valjevo, companies, organizations, and individuals, this monumental building has been constructed and consecrated for worship. The most beautiful and simultaneously most demanding task is its fresco painting. Thanks to the contributions of donors, 280 out of a total of 6,500 square meters of surface have been painted so far.
Building the temple builds ourselves too, a maxim long known and realized countless times in the philanthropic deeds of our holy ancestors. To prove ourselves worthy successors, and to leave a bright example for those who follow, it is our sacred duty to create works in God’s glory.
The Diocese of Valjevo, the Church of the Resurrection of Christ, and the Omni Center organized a fundraising evening at the Cultural Center where on the main stage, renowned dramatic artist Nenad Jezdić performed his popular monodrama „The Book About Milutin.“
This event was also graced by the presence of many celebrities, and we wish to extend our gratitude to everyone who was part of this magical evening. We are pleased to announce that this event raised approximately 10 million dinars for the fresco painting of the Church.
Thank you for your generosity!
The sports-charity tournament „Three-Pointer from the Block“ gathered a large number of celebrities in Valjevo on December 24, 2021, at the Omni Center Hotel with one goal—to shoot rapid three-pointers and raise money for the Kostadinović family from Prijezdić near Valjevo.
This charitable event brought together over one hundred participants, several hundred Valjevo residents, and numerous celebrities, enhancing the occasion. Thanks to sponsors, donors, participants, and all who attended, a total of 229,540 dinars and 260 euros were collected.
Celebrities like Dragana Mirković, Dejan Savić, Darko Miličić, Vladimir Vanja Grbić, Ljubica Vranješ, Novica Veličković, Marko Pantelić, Duško Vujošević, Nikola Rađen, Igor Milanović, Nemanja Blažić Triki, Viktor Savić, Milan Vasić, Milica Dosković, Boško Ćirković Škabo, Veljko Ražnatović, Nenad Milijaš, Zoran Tošić, Đorđe Lazić, Zlatko Došljak, Branislav Ratkovica, and Marko Jeremić made sure this event was a spectacular one that Valjevo will remember for a long time.
The event was inaugurated by Bishop Isahije of Valjevo, Mayor Lazar Gojković, director of the Omni Center Aleksandar Njegovan, and president of the humanitarian organization Serbs for Serbs, Igor Rašula.
Members of the Abrašević Center for the Preservation of Traditional Culture performed a traditional dance at the start of the event, with outstanding performances by Ljubica Vranješ and Milica Dosković.
In an exhilarating competition, which even required a VAR review to determine the accurate score, Mateja Milivojević excelled with 16 points. Darko Slavić and Andrej Nikolić, each scoring 15 points, had to shoot an additional round, where Darko ultimately prevailed and secured the silver medal.
The Kostadinović family, a family of seven who, like many large families in Serbia, have struggled tremendously just to survive, were also present. From the earthquake in the late 1990s that destroyed their home to the present day, despite numerous attempts, they have been unable to stabilize their situation. The humanitarian organization Serbs for Serbs has launched a major campaign to assist the family, and the funds raised at the tournament will be used to address their urgent needs in the coming period.
In closing, we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who was part of this project, contributing to the successful completion of the first Three-Pointer from the Block in Valjevo. This tournament also marked the end of the 2021 Three-Pointer from the Block season. We eagerly anticipate the start of the next season, uniting again with a shared goal: to help those in dire need!
